Moving In: Pushing Daisies

Was I the only one who watched the excellent ABC show, Pushing Daisies? I feel like I was.

pushing daisiesThe show was about Pie Maker, the gentle-looking besuited Lee Pace who has a special supernatural talent: he can bring back someone or something from the dead with his touch. The show is about his relationship with Chuck (above, yellow dress, also known as Anna Friel), his weird agoraphobic aunts and their birds (red dresses), Kristin Chenoweth’s being funny, and a sort of complicated relationship with a P.I. (purple shirt). It was inventive, whimsical, and well-written; in short, it was never going to make it and was cancelled after one season. Here’s a quick primer:

You Should Know How to Do This: Pie Crust

There is not one word you can say to me that will convince me that you don’t want to eat that.

Because I’m a Southerner and also afraid of food in packages, I make my own pie crust. This has two benefits:
1. It is tasty.

2. It makes me superior to you, a person using the frozen kind from the grocery, in every way.

Do I Love You? A guide on how to know.

Maybe you’re wondering if I love you. The answer is a firm “maybe.” A good hint would be that if you get hurt and are feeling kind of bummed and are just hanging around the house alone, I make you a pie and bring it to you and sit on your couch and watch Nashville with you.
A couple days ago, I promised that I would share a few things my grandma taught me how to do. I meant to get this to you yesterday, but, you know, Nashville. The particular coconut cream pie recipe that I will share with you after the jump is well regarded to be the alpha and omega of coconut cream pies. I will let you be the judge.
